How To Select Filler Rod
The thickness of the metal being welded will determine the diameter of the rod.
045” diameter filler rod for thin sheet metal
1/16” diameter filler rod for welding metal 1/8” thick or less 3/32” diameter filler rod for welding metals thicker than 1/8”.Match the alloy you’ll be welding to the filler rod. Here are some common applications:
ER70S-2 – Mild steel and 4130 chrome moly tubing
4043 – Aluminum ER308L – Stainless Steel Silicon Bronze – Used for brazing and even combining dissimilar metals like copper to steelIt’s usually a great idea to have a tube of a few kinds available because you never know what kinds of projects you’re going to run into.
