Flat Automotive Paint
Ditch the modern gloss and enjoy a throwback style with flat car paint from Eastwood. While shiny paint has been around for nearly a century, some people still prefer a matte finish. In fact, even though flat paint is considered "dull", it actually can help a car stand out when everyone else is trying to ramp up the shine. Several modern car manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz and BMW, still offer cars with OEM flat paints — and you can do the same to your custom vehicle or restoration by shopping at the DIY leader.
Matte Car Paint Colors and Clears
We've put together a few options for painters who want to go flat in a good way. Eastwood flat black car paint is a single-stage urethane that quickly gives cars and trucks a show-worthy "rat rod" look. Dead Rat flat black auto paint has zero gloss in a durable, easily sprayable formula. If you want just a little bit of sheen, go with Rat Rod Satin Black single-stage paint. This has about 20-25% gloss compared to the 70-90% gloss of most modern finishes.
Alternatively, you can turn any Eastwood base coat into a flat paint by using matte clears as a topcoat. This type of coating works differently than normal gloss clears. Instead of filling and leveling the paint underneath — which is part of what creates a shine — matte clear coat adds small dimples that stop the paint from reflecting light. We offer Rat Road Matte Clear as a regular spray and in our 2K AeroSpray™ line of aerosol paints. Either solution quickly creates flat red, blue or gray car paint that's protected against the elements.
All Eastwood paints come with a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee and lifetime tech support. Search the Eastwood Garage for articles and videos that go into more detail about flat car painting and showcase some of our favorite projects.
